Anxiety is Nothing to Fear: Applying the ACT Model in Working with Anxious & Depressed Clinical Populations

Presented by Nigel Darvell, ACSW, LCSW, CAC

6.0 Clock Hours

Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT) is a new, scientifically based psychotherapy that takes a look at why we suffer and what it means to be mentally healthy.  ACT is a proven method of treatment for clients with depression, anxiety, stress and addictions along with many other psychological issues. This workshop will equip the clinician and social worker with an effective treatment plan to bring ACT to the clients who often feel stuck, resistant and suffering. This workshop will transform the way we work with our clients who avoid the pain of their condition which often makes their condition worse.

ACT is a revolutionary new approach to helping clients live the life they want free of suffering and pain and more of acceptance and freedom.

Educational Objectives:

  1. Teach the basics of the ACT model for immediate implementation in working with your clients
  2. Teach clients to escape the trap of avoidance
  3. Guidance for creating your own therapeutic techniques and exercises
  4. Strategies and guidelines to overcome “therapy stuck points and roadblocks”
  5. Provide a template to implement ACT in clients treatment plans
  6. Equip the client and professional with direct and personalized skills to move the unmotivated to the motivated
  7. Provide an environment for a powerful therapeutic ongoing relationship
