Problems with executive functioning include a wide array of situations, ranging from ADHD, to depression, to Trauma. Working with families and couples with executive functioning issues reminds many clinicians of being at the circus when that little car pulled up and a seemingly unending string of clowns gets out. As soon as one issue is resolved another pops up!  Executive dysfunction creates significant, yet predictable issues in relationships. This workshop will focus on understanding these issues, potential pitfalls and solutions. An eight session intervention will be presented which utilizes psychoeducation, family systems, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, behavior modification, and a large dose of compassion.

Join Gary and Jennifer for a solution based, practical skill oriented and entertaining presentation on this important issue.

Presenters:

Gary Johnson is a licensed psychologist and marriage and family therapist. He helped lead one of the first marriage encounter workshops focusing on ADHD couples over 25 years ago. In addition, having ADHD himself, he has presented numerous examples to his wife (of 35 years) the frustration and comedy of living with someone with executive functioning problems. His favorite group to present to is NASW and can be counted upon to give an informative, practical, lively and fun workshop on this very significant  topic.

Jennifer Waltman is a postdoctoral neurocognitive assessment provider working with Gary Johnson at CALM with a degree in social work, an MBA, and a doctorate in psychology.  Her “multifarious" education is an example of a method to calm her "too busy" brain while allowing her to pursue career goals and feed her brain's need to “do!”  She lives with her family in a home with  four very different types of  executive functioning! Also, Jennifer is also a postdoctoral behavioral health provider at the Native American Community Clinic in Minneapolis and in her extra time, she does business coaching.
