This NASW-IA sponsored comprehensive 6-hour workshop addresses the most critical issues for the clinical supervisor in social work.

Key concepts to be covered include:

  • Responsibilities and models of supervision
  • Iowa regulatory requirements and the supervision plan
  • Parallel process and effectively evaluating and improving supervision
  • In addition, research examining at supervision will be explored

Through presentation, large group and small group discussions, the following aspects of supervision will be explored in this training:

  1. The purpose, role, and functions of supervision
  2. Theories and models of supervision
  3. Oversight and guidance of supervisees who diagnose, create treatment plans, and treat clientsI
  4. Individual supervision facilitation
  5. Parallel process and the importance of modeling strengths-based principles in supervision
  6. A review of literature regarding the practice of supervision in social work

Continuing Education
NASW-IA has determined that this program meets the criteria of the Iowa Board of Social Work for 6.0 hours of continuing education for Licensed Independent Social Workers.  This workshop has been designed to meet the requirements of the Iowa Board of Social Work for LISWs supervising LMSWs who are working to become clinical social workers. 


Presenter: Myke Selha, LISW

Myke Selha, a clinical social worker, is an assistant professor and the Field Education Director in the BSW program at Grand View University. Until this past summer, he also had a private practice, made primarily up of LGBTQ clientele. In addition to offering psychotherapy for individuals and families, he provides clinical supervision and conducts trainings for human service agencies. He also acts as a consultant for other mental health professionals who are working with trans-identified clients.
