Clinical Supervision: Beyond the Basics
This 3 hr. supervision course will build off the 6 hr. Clinical Supervision in Social Work training provided by NASW over the past few years. The course will review licensure documentation requirements. Sample supervision plans with goals and objectives, and addendum plans will be reviewed. This course will also cover where to begin supervision, how to proceed with supervision based on supervisee’s needs and professional development, and common obstacles supervisors face. Supervising others can be a rewarding and challenging experience, having to engage a variety of personalities. A process of how to have a difficult conversation with a supervisee will be provided, and exploring various techniques to manage difficult situations will be offered. A review of the importance of cultural competency, informed consent, ethical decision making, and liability will also addressed. Video examples of individual and group supervision with supervisees will be viewed on such topics with follow up discussions.
Course Objectives:
- Will learn licensure documentation and requirements for supervision plans.
- Will learn various approaches to providing supervision and how to meet supervisee’s individual professional needs.
- Will learn how to have a difficult conversation with supervisee when there are performance concerns.
