"Here's the truth, folks...": Myth-Busting for Ethical Social Work Practice

Wednesday, June 24, 2020

9:00 AM - 11:00 AM (2 CEUs - may be counted as ethics or general CEUs)

 Presenter: Karen Goodenough, MSW, LGSW

Our ability to practice social work ethically is often impacted by misconceptions and misunderstandings that abound – not in the public, but within our own profession. “Who can call themselves a social worker?” “Do I need to be licensed if I’m not in clinical practice?” “Can I connect with clients over social media?” “What’s the actual difference between the Board of Social Work and NASW?” This will be an ethics webinar unlike any other; we will be busting the biggest myths and addressing the most common questions that we get from Minnesota social workers.

Whether you’ve been in practice for 3 months or 30 years, you are guaranteed to learn something new (and probably surprising!). Come get the truth about licensure; use of technology; dual relationships; liability; the connection between macro, mezzo, and micro practice - and practical, applicable information that you need to engage in ethical social work practice. We will also be discussing the importance of accurate representation of our profession and adequate compensation of social workers as an ethical issue.
