Using Creative Activities with Traditional Trauma Treatment and Secondary Trauma

Presented by Jennie Lannette Bedsworth, MSW, LCSW, TF-CBT

6.0 Clock Hours

Do you feel drawn to using creativity and art with your clients who are dealing with trauma, but aren’t sure where to start? Are you unsure if creative expressions fit within evidence based practices? This workshop will review these topics, and help you get started with incorporating creativity into your services.

Creative activities can be combined with most trauma treatment modalities to help build client comfort and rapport, reinforce psychoeducational topics, and assist clients in processing difficult topics. Creative activities can also help both clients and clinicians build mastery, which is shown to be a resiliency and healing factor in trauma and depression. It can also help with secondary trauma - so you can help other professionals as well as yourself.

Educational Objectives:

  • Understand benefits of using creative activities such as visual arts in healing
  • Understand ways to use creativity with trauma clients
  • Learn how to integrate creative activities into evidence-based treatments such as Prolonged Exposure and Trauma-Focused CBT
  • Learn how to use creativity to build trauma “resiliency in clients
  • Understand how to use creativity to build resiliency to secondary trauma for helping professionals
  • Understand ways expressive activities can help professionals deal with secondary trauma
  • Complete a simple creative activity within the workshop relating to your own resiliency
