Caught in the Web: Internet Addiction and How to Help the Individual Break Free from this Pervasive Societal Problem

Presented by Nigel Darvell, ACSW, LCSW, CAC

 6.0 Clock Hours

The use of the internet has entered many American homes resulting in progress and benefits. However there has also been an acceleration of compulsions and addictions brought on by the pervasive technological hijacking of the brain. This brain hijacking has resulted in devastating consequences to the individual resulting in an erosion of empathy and connections to real people versus virtual, on screen identities.

This workshop will explore the internet addictions of pornography, gaming and video, social networking sites and gambling. Latest statistics and consequences will be explored and remedies and interventions discussed to help the individual break free from this pervasive destructive societal problem.

Treatment techniques and realistic and applicable treatments will be reviewed and discussed to utilize with your clients struggling with all forms of internet addictions.

At the end of this workshop participants will be able to:

  1. Identify the many sources of internet addictions
  2. Examine the growing epidemic of Pornography Addiction
  3. Understand the Brain Hijack system
  4. Learn ways to intervene with the individual and family
  5. Assist clients in understanding this pervasive societal problem
  6. Utilize techniques and develop treatment plans to intervene and intercept these compulsions and addictive processes
  7. Restore balance and emotional regulation to the individual
  8. Provide the clinician with the latest and most results orientated interventions and treatments
