Ethics and Dual Relationships

This is an ethics training for all social workers. It will provide several engaging learning tools to capture your attention.


Building on the curriculum of Ethics and Social Work Practice, this workshop will cover basic terms, concepts and current understanding related to dual relationship in helping professions. We will explore knowledge and skills needed when contemplating engaging in dual relationships, offer case scenarios for dialogue, and provide time to inquiry into our assumptions, biases and practice experience.



Presenter Cara Carlson, Ph. D., MSW, LICSW


Dr. Cara Carlson, MSW, LICSW is a member of the Ethics committee of the Minnesota Chapter of NASW. She has 30 years experience working with individuals, families and groups in a variety of settings within the diverse communities of Minneapolis and St. Paul.  This includes teaching in the Social Work Departments of Augsburg University and University of St. Thomas/St. Catherine University, acting toward social justice and activism, community organizing, and anti-oppression work. Currently she practices with Anam Cara Therapies, as an Integral Psychotherapist and Consultant. She holds a Ph.D. in Transpersonal Psychology and provides supervision for dozens of candidates for licensure.  Dr. Carlson bring a great deal of excitement and expertise for exploring ethics and dual relationships.
