Clinical Navigation in an Angry World: Working with Clients Who Present with Anger Related Disorders and Conditions

Presented by Nigel Darvell, ACSW, LCSW, CAC

6.0 Clock Hours

Clinicians today are confronted with difficult and challenging cases involving anger and resistance. Often clients feel frustrated misunderstood and often feel that they are not improving. This workshop will explore the many clinical conditions that can be a holding environment for anger and aggression. When anger is not addressed and given a therapeutic release, it is often difficult for the client to work on their issues that brought them to the clinician’s attention. This workshop will equip the clinician with effective tools and techniques in working with anger related disorders.

Educational Objectives:

  1. The challenges of working with Anger related disorders. Clinical and personality diagnosis will be discussed in children and adults
  2. Anger as the “secondary” emotion will be examined and addressed
  3. Clinician will be able to intervene in diffusing and reducing levels of anger that can be a roadblock to therapeutic outcomes
  4. Understanding the “Protective mode” of clients with anger
  5. The many faces of anger will be explored and discussed
  6. How traditional anger management techniques are  not effective in long term management of anger
  7. Clinicians will come away with proven and effective therapeutic interventions to assist their clients in removing the “Wall of Anger” so they can more effectively work on their clinical diagnosis
  8. Understanding of working with personality disorders and how they impede progress while being a breeding ground for ongoing anger
  9. Self-care and addressing the emotional needs of the provider
