The treatments of addictions have changed from traditional one size fits all approaches to embracing a more eclectic and alternative approaches.  This workshop will explore the new and emerging models and approaches to treating clients with substance use disorders.  The importance of connections will be
explored along with harm reduction approaches and reviewing the SMART Recovery and rational recovery approaches.  Traditional approaches will be discussed and how they have not been adequate in reaching the many different faces of addictions.  This workshop will provoke you to challenge your paradigms and understanding of addiction treatment.  Everything you learned about addictions is about to change in this dynamic and collaborative workshop experience where connection is the opposite of addiction.



Educational Objectives:

  1. Traditional methods will be explored and reviewed
  2. Harm Reduction approaches and SMART Recovery programs will be reviewed
  3. The value of connection and teaching vulnerability to clients will be explored
  4. A new paradigm of addiction treatment will be discussed and applied to fit the many different
    Substance use Disorder clients
  5. Clinicians will be able to develop realistic and measurable treatment plans utilizing the new
    paradigm of treatment
  6. Relapse pro-active prevention models will be discussed
  7. Clinicians will develop an understanding of “adding” to clients recovery took kit versus the “deficit” model approach
