Presented by Terri Cooley Bennett, LCSW, LSCSW, CCDP-D
6.0 Clock Hours

Meets 2.0 hour suicide prevention training and education requirement for licensure and renewal of licensure.

According to the Missouri Institute of Mental Health, suicide was the 2nd leading cause of death among young adults in Missouri (ages 15-24) in 2013 and Missouri was the 18th highest in the nation for suicide completions.  Missouri Social Workers are now required to have CEU’s in Suicide Prevention for licensure renewal.  This workshop will examine the prevalence of suicide and what types of mental health concerns, if any, coincide with high rates of suicide.  The workshop will also examine prevention strategies and how social workers can take care of and manage vicarious trauma that may occur when working with clients who present as suicidal, have attempted suicide, or have completed suicide.  This course will meet the Suicide Prevent Continuing Education Units as required by the Missouri Licensing Board.

Educational Objectives:

  1. Research regarding suicide and its prevalence will be examined by workshop participants
  2. Mental Health conditions will be reviewed as they pertain to suicide
  3. Prevention strategies will be discussed
  4. Managing Vicarious Trauma as it relates to Suicide Prevention will be examined
