Supervision Toolkit: Getting Equipped (AM Session)

Presented by Debbie Emmelkamp, MSW, LCSW

3.0 Clock Hours

Meets 3.0 hour supervision requirement for renewal of acceptable supervisors for licensure.

This program meets the 3-hour licensure renewal requirement for supervisors who have
completed the 16-hour Supervision Certification Course.  The program will help offer skills and tips to assure supervisors are prepared for the licensure supervision process in Missouri.   A “Supervision Checklist” has been developed to equip supervisors in understanding the statutory requirements and rules application in order for them to perform their role in assisting supervisees for the licensure process.  Being an effective supervisor makes an enormous difference on the supervisee’s ability to gain skills and advance their social work practice as they work toward
becoming that independent licensed practitioner.  The workshop will offer numerous activities to help supervisors develop their goals and objectives based on law, standards and the professional code for supervising in the licensure process.

Registration 8:00 am, workshop 8:30 am - 11:45 am

Ethics in the Age of Technology and Social Media (PM Session)

Presented by Debbie Emmelkamp, MSW, LCSW

3.0 Clock Hours

This course meets the Ethics requirement for licensure renewal.

Technology and social media is here and will be staying in today’s world—personally and professionally.  Social workers have two sets of guidelines in which to assist them in practice, Code of Ethics and NASW Practice Standards.  The NASW Practice Standards & Guidelines provide benchmarks that describe the services that social workers should provide; that employers should support and that consumers should expect.  The Standards/guidelines reflect current and emerging best practice trends and are a critical component of the professional social worker's toolkit.  They are useful for both new and experienced practitioners, and can be effective advocacy tools.  NASW and ASWB have developed a set of standards for social workers to guide them with the use of technology in practice.

Technology is changing the social work practice offering new ways to perform services and obtain information.  The challenges that it brings requires a special set of skills and knowledge to provide the best practice.  This program will assist social workers in applying the new 2017 Code of Ethics and NASW Standards for Technology and Social Work Practice changes for today’s practice.

Learning Objectives:

  • Review the NASW Standards for Technology and Social Work Practice along with the Code of Ethics in practice
  • Develop a strategy for application of the NASW Standards for Technology and Social Work Practice along with the Code of Ethics in practice
