Session Description: Social Work is one of the top 4 most stressful careers. The stringent push for data and excessive emotional needs of children and families with high ACES are taking a toll on our Social Workers.  While self-care strategies are important in order to be physically and emotionally at our best, the responsibility can’t just be on us.  The system in which we serve students, must also be supportive of our work.  Learn about how each one of us can identify and prevent our own burnout while instituting even small change into our circles.

Learning Objectives:
1. To gain an overview (who, what, why, when, where) of Social Work burnout
2. To review/learn the concepts of ACES, compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma (secondary trauma) and burnout
3. To learn about how the brain and body are impacted by workplace stress related to our clients’ trauma and system barriers
4. To identify self-care strategies that can be utilized to manage the physical and mental impact of workplace stress
5. To learn ideas of how Social Worker resilience and mindset can be built into the organizational system
