Workshop description: It is common knowledge that the working alliance between clinician and patient is the most fundamental and predictive factor of effectiveness across all therapies and healing efforts. Each clinician brings their own culture to the healing relationship and experiences the challenges of cultural diversity with each client. This presentation is intended to bring sensitivity, awareness, and responsiveness to the structure, process, and content of psychotherapy and clinical work, particularly as it relates to cultural differences. It will invite reflection about our availability, accessibility, and responsiveness addressing where do we put culture in our treatment efforts.
Objectives
1. Identify the “ideal” treatment process including the ideal client and provider.
2. To increase awareness and sensitivity related to cultural needs for providers and patients.
3. Identify several ways in which you can initiate conversations exploring our client’s cultural needs
related to treatment.
4. List two personal challenges or areas of growth related to issues of diversity and culture.
5. Name two new interventions that would be helpful to implement in your practice from this workshop.
