Mental Health Therapist


Come join an outstanding team of professionals who share a passion for empowering individuals and strengthening families!  Catholic Charities, Diocese of Des Moines is currently accepting applications for a licensed, or temporary licensed therapist to join our team!  Our therapists are master’s level mental health professionals that specialize in treating children, adolescents and adults to provide the highest level of care for individuals and families. 


Core Responsibilities:

  • Provides quality mental health counseling services in a confidential, caring, and supportive environment
  • Builds and maintains a caseload schedule that is conducive to appropriate clinical service productivity standards 
  • Completes diagnostic assessments and formulate treatment plans
  • Designs and implements treatment plans reflective of individual/child/family needs


  • Master's degree from accredited social work, mental health counseling, or marriage and family therapy program. Clinical licensure at temporary or independent level: Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW) Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), or LMFT preferred.
  • Ability to work in a positive and cooperative fashion
  • Bilingual English-Spanish preferred, not required

School-based Mental Health Therapist


Next Step Counseling Services is looking for motivated, organized and driven candidates to fill open School-based Mental Health Therapist positions within our agency located in Des Moines, Iowa. Next Step Counseling Services, Inc. provides a variety of treatment services to adolescents, adults and families. Services include, but are not limited to outpatient mental health assessment, individual and family therapy services, BHIS and child mental health waiver services. 


The Therapist will provide counseling and therapeutic services to clients within schools including completing psychosocial assessments, outpatient therapy, treatment planning, crisis intervention, documentation, staff development, discharge planning, and collaboration with families, schools, community, and other health care providers. There may be additional opportunities to serve a variety of ages of clients in the community and/or at our main office on Ingersoll Avenue in Des Moines.

Experience and Education:



  • Master’s degree in Social Work (LMSW, LISW) or Counseling (T-LMHC, LMHC, LMFT, T-LMFT)
  • License to practice in the state of Iowa
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of computers
  • Occasional travel and the ability to adjust work schedule as required
  • Preferred experience in a social work, human services, or related field
