JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

Executive Director

National Association of Social Workers – Oklahoma Chapter

 

The Oklahoma Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), with a statewide membership of nearly 1000, is seeking a part time (30 hours/week) Executive Director with demonstrated leadership and management skills. In addition, applicants should have a substantial knowledge of and a strong commitment to the social work profession and social work values, with an awareness of the diversity of social work practice.  Applicants should also be able to engage, inspire, and mobilize the Association’s membership.  NASW is the largest membership organization of professional social workers in the world, with 120,000 members nationwide. NASW works to enhance the professional growth and development of its members, to create and maintain professional standards, and to advance sound social policies. The Chapter Executive Director reports to the NASW Deputy Director of Chapter Operations at the National Office and is accountable to the Oklahoma Chapter Board of Directors.

Position requires:

·         Senior leadership experience working with professional or non-profit organizations and their volunteer Boards

·         Minimum of 3 years of executive level experience

  • College degree required; MSW preferred
  • Strong executive management skills, including the ability to provide oversight for organizational and leadership development priorities, relevant legislative efforts, membership services, and continuing education programs
  • Strong budget and financial management skills
  • Strong program planning and implementation skills
  • Strong public policy experience and skills
  • Strong advocacy and legislative experience and skills
  • Community organizing experience
  • Exceptional written and oral communications skills
  • Experience working with traditional and social media
  • Commitment to providing excellent membership support and engagement
  • Basic proficiency with Office products software, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, as well as working in the online/“cloud” environment.

 

The Chapter currently has an office in Oklahoma City; travel required to other Oklahoma communities, as needed.

Salary: $42,000, plus excellent benefits, including health and life insurance, and retirement.

NASW OKLAHOMA 2018 ANNUAL STATE CONFERENCE

 

CALL FOR WORKSHOPS

 

April 5-7, 2018

River Spirit Casino Resort

Tulsa, Oklahoma

 

NASW Oklahoma’s Conference Planning Committee is seeking workshops for 2018 Annual State Conference. We welcome a broad variety of creative and innovative presentations focusing on current or developing practice techniques or trends that are evidence-based. Presentations and workshops that explore the use of new practices or technologies for micro, mezzo, and/or macro levels of interventions will be given strong considerations.

 

This year’s conference will continue to focus on practice related issues across the full spectrum of Social Work Practice. The conference will again include tracks for Clinical, Healthcare, Research, Administration/Policy, and/or Trending/Emerging Issues. Only the top evaluated workshops will be selected for the conference.

 

In order for your presentation to be considered, all the required information must be completed and submitted by the deadline. No workshop will be considered without ALL of the requested information. All workshops proposals must be submitted by November 6, 2017.  Only electronic proposals will be accepted. Email proposals to conference@naswok.org with your last name and the event in the subject line (Ex: Smith – 2018 Conference).

 

Items for presenters to consider when submitting a proposal:

·         Workshops are 90 minutes (1.5 hours) in length and Keynote sessions are 1.5 or 2 hours in length. If submitting for the Ethics session, the presentation must be a minimum of 3 hours in length. It is best if presenters allow time for questions at the end

·         You must identify if your proposal needs to be 2 parts

·         This conference is open to other disciplines (e.g., LADC, LPC, LMFT)

·         NASW Oklahoma is limited on funds to pay fees, travel, or other expenses for presenters

·         Presenters MUST bring their own laptop if presenting a PowerPoint or showing any video or audio clips

·         Please be sure your workshop title & description accurately reflect the content of your presentation

10. Equipment Requirements. All workshops will be equipped with LCD Projector/Screen with video and audio capability and a microphone (either wireless handheld or lapel). Presenters MUST bring their own laptops. Mac and tablet adapters will be limited, so we encourage presenters to bring their own. Per your request below, we will do our best to meet your needs. However, we cannot guarantee last minute acquisition should your needs change after submitting your workshop proposal. Please check only what you know you will need:

 Quick Update on Legislative Day 2017: 

 

Legislative Day 2017 went great! Social Workers from all over the state came to the State Capitol to engage in the legislative process.  We want to thank the State Capitol for hosting the event as well as the legislative aids who assisted all of the social workers who came into their offices!  We also want to thank the DHS State Office for hosting our social workers in the morning!  Shout out and a special thanks to Andy Moore from Let's Fix This,  as well as Kara Joy McKee from Oklahoma Policy for speaking at Legislative Day.  Also, a shout out to Representatives Carol Bush, Jason Dunnington, and Emily Virgin as well as Senators David Holt and Adam Pugh.  We appreciate the legislators taking time out of their busy schedule to be on our panel.
